Who we
are
The National Organisation For The Disabled (BARNOD) is the only
cross-disability organisation in Barbados.
We are a non-profit group managed by and for persons with
disabilities.
Our membership comprises blind and visually impaired persons, wheel
chair users, persons with mental and hidden disabilities.
BARNOD is affiliated with the Barbados Council For The Disabled (BCD,
Disabled Peoples Organisation of the Caribbean (DPOC) and Disabled Peoples' International (D.P.I).
Our Mandate
Our Mandate is to raise public
and political awareness on issues concerning persons with
disabilities. Our goal is to promote full participation and
equalisation for persons with disabilities.
We are committed to:
- Lobbying government at all levels
on policies affecting persons with disabilities
- Promoting awareness through media,
lectures, seminars and training courses
- Sharing information and self help
skills that will improve the socio-economic status of persons with
disabilities
- Supporting activities to foster
better health and sporting opportunities for persons with
disabilities.
